Types of Agricultural Brakes for Farming Equipment & Applications

Stearns manufactures two different types of electromagnetic disc brakes for farm equipment:

Armature actuated brakes (AAB) are spring-set electrically released (safety) DC direct acting brakes, which can also be rectified for use with AC voltage. They're available in IEC or NEMA frame sizes, with no additional wiring, controls or auxiliary electrical equipment required for most applications.

Solenoid actuated brakes (SAB) are spring-set electrically released (safety) brakes with standard AC voltage (DC voltages available). Our solenoid actuated brakes have a compact design, delivering high torque in a small size and providing a wide range of options.

Stearns design engineers work with farm equipment manufacturers to troubleshoot and innovate motor brake designs for a wide range of equipment used in agriculture as well as poultry and dairy farming.
