Use Cases for Non-Drive End NEMA Brakes
Non-drive end mounted industrial brakes, otherwise known as opposite-shaft end brakes or front-end brakes, are National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA)-certified, which helps ensure the brakes ability to work in less-than-ideal working environments.
Drive-End Mounted NEMA Brakes vs Non-Drive-End Mounted NEMA Brakes
A non-drive end mounted NEMA brake produces the same outcome that a regular, drive-end mounted NEMA brake produces, and both can be used in the same types of application settings.
The biggest difference between the two types of brakes is that NEMA non-drive end mounted brakes provide increased space and system alignment for industrial brake systems with niche specifications. For example, if a system requires a gearbox for increased or decreased motor output and is installed on the drive-end side of the motor, it could force the brake to go in an unwanted direction, and ultimately risk system malfunction. On the other hand, a non-drive end mounted NEMA brake has the flexibility to be installed in-between a gearbox and a motor or create space for brake accessories that increase overall system efficiency such as a fan to protect the motor from overheating.
